For the project €LAN a methodological approach has been developed which is based on an intensive inter- and transdisciplinary cooperation.

An integrated land-use and transport model is developed to show the explicitly the spatial impact on energy prices and other factors, simulating the mobility and location decisions of the population and economy.

This is coupled with a social-political experiment (serious game), in which decision-makers from different political and administrative areas are encouraged to define objectives, policies and strategies in their respective areas to meet the simulated impact on energy prices.

Together the two halves create an iterative structured simulation experiment for the specific area of the extended metropolitan region of Hamburg and an observation period of 20 years (2010-2030) which is repeated several times.
