Background - Research questions

What is coming toward us?

  • How strongly will a permanent increase in energy prices affect households and businesses and will it cause changes in their mobility or location choice behavior?
  • Which household types and which settlement types tend to be the most affected?
  • Which interactions are expected to occur between energy price increase and other major trends in spatial, social and economic development?

What can we do?

  • To what extent can policymakers mitigate negative effects of rising energy prices?
  • What are the options for local and regional decision-makers in the fields of local/regional economy, environmental and social policy?

What follows from it?

  • Which realistic policy and planning strategies can be designed regarding the given restricted resources faced by decision-makers?
  • How compatible are the public policy strategies with strategies in other relevant fields for a sustainable land use development (e.g. climate, demographics, social justice)?
